Our Family Business Story
Bair's began in 1948 when Howard Bair founded Bair Tractor Sales. The business, originally a farm equipment dealership evolved into a lawn and garden dealership in the 1960s, as the North Canton area changed from rural to a more suburban area. The Polaris snowmobile line was added to this small, local dealership, in 1967 making Bair's the first Polaris dealer in the State of Ohio.
Cloyse Cheyney partnered with and eventually purchased Bair's in the 1970s. Since that time, the Cheyney family, including Deloris, their three children, and now grandchildren have worked for and operated the Bair's business.
From the beginning, the company was led by the Cheyney family with honesty, integrity, and a strong focus on customer care. These were the ideals that were most valued and implemented into the daily operations of the popular and growing local business.
The additions to the recreational vehicle department of the dealership including, Polaris ATV's in 1985, Polaris watercraft in 1992, Victory Motorcycles in 1998, Indian Motorcycle in 2014, and Slingshot in 2016, required a definite need to move the recreational branch of the dealership into a larger facility. We are now located in a brand new building directly off of I-77 and Shuffel Road in North Canton, Ohio.
Bair's Lawn and Garden remain at its original location on the corner of Portage and Wales in Jackson Township.
Today, Bair's Powersports employs a staff of 18 with over 144 years of experience. Co-Owners, Brad Cheyney, who has worked with the company for over 40 years, and Clay Cheyney, who has worked with Bair's for over 19 years, lead a talented veteran group of employees who are passionate about their work and the Polaris products that they sell.
The company today is still running with the same ideals and principles that it was founded on.
